Department of Philosophy of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Records, 1976-1986

The Department of Philosophy of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is responsible for the university's undergraduate and graduate curricula in philosophy. In 1967 the department, in cooperation with the university's Extension Division (later the Division of Extension and Continuing Education), began sponsoring the annual Chapel Hill Colloquium in Philosophy. Records of the Department of Philosophy consist of seven audiotapes, six of which document portions of the 1976, 1978, 1979, and 1986 Chapel Hill Colloquium in Philosophy. The remaining tape documents the 17 September 1978 memorial service for Jane English, an associate professor in the Department of Philosophy who was killed in a mountain climbing accident at the age of 31. Also included are copies of the printed programs for these events.
